[Beaver Valley Times, January 17, 1947—“Radio in Review” by John Crosby] “Speaking of
mystery stuff, there’s a transcribed program called ‘Murder at Midnight’ heard in New York on
WJZ, Monday nights and widely distributed in other cities. Two things troubled me the other
night about ‘Murder at Midnight.’ First, it came on at 10:30 p. m., not midnight—second, there
wasn’t a murder in the thing. Apart from that, it’s an apt title.
“The name of this particular episode was ‘The House That Time Forgot’ and a very nice little
horror story it was. I readily accepted the premise of this story which involved a young couple
stepping seven years backward in time the moment they crossed the threshold of the house.
However, my credulity was severely strained at another point. The young couple was just on the
verge of purchasing the house when the real estate agent warned them there were several strange
things the matter with it.
“‘I just thought it was fair to tell you about it before you bought it,’ said the real estate agent.
“Now wait a minute, fellow. Fantasy is all right in its place but let’s keep it within reasonable
limits.”

“The Dead Hand”
[
“…These stories will not be of the ‘shocker’ type but
will employ stories with plenty of suspense. The first one is the story of a
fictional world famous pianist who loses a hand in an auto accident. He
becomes obsessed with the notion that the doctor has purposely ruined
his life. The process of acquiring a new hand we will not reveal here.
Suffice is [sic] to say the story is a subtle analysis of the workings of a
man’s mind under desperate circumstances…”]
