Basil Kirke was the manager of 6WF in Perth, West Australia, and, in the early days, a frequent
speaker on his station on a variety of topics, from “The Bega Firewalkers of Figi” (January 20,
1930) to “Bottling of Our Australian Bush Perfume” (February 6, 1930).
Broadcasting Company from 1929 to 1932 and then the WA State Manager of the Australian
Broadcasting Commission from 1932 to 1936 and 1952 to 1958. He lobbied tirelessly for the new
offices and studios that were built in Adelaide Terrace and extended through to Terrace Drive, in
Perth. At the time the new buildings were considered the most modern broadcasting facilities in
Australia. The Perth studio complex referred to in this video was built in 1958, on the former site
of Rose Hill House, at 191 Adelaide Terrace. ABC radio moved to the new facilities in 1959, whilst
work continued on the television building on the lower part of the site, facing Terrace Road.”
