“…a night telephone operator who keeps getting calls from a man wanting to know the time who
says how he murdered his brother one Christmas Eve and is waiting for him to return. At
midnight his voice ends in a choke. The operator tries to convince the police he is sober—they find
the caller’s number was a dead line—that of a manor which no longer existed.”
